Review: Tears of Tess

Tears of Tess (Tears of Tess, #1)Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I wanted a new label. One that said: girlfriend who will do anything to be tied, spanked, and fucked all over rather than adored.
Tess wanted a new label and little did she know, she was about to get one.

TEARS OF TESS is dark and delicious. I’m a huge fan of dark reads that contain elements of non-con and captivity, but this one adds a unique spin that is bound to captivate the hearts of many and lure new fans to the dark-side. Let’s not sugar coat things, TEARS OF TESS is dark and if you have a tough time reading about non-consensual sex, slavery and human trafficking, then this might not be the book for you, but if you have an interest in these topics, and have yet to take the plunge, then this might be a great book to start with.

On the outside, Tess has a great life, a promising future in property development and a loving and attentive boyfriend, but deep down, she craves more than her vanilla relationship can provide. When Tess tests the waters in an effort to add some pizazz to their sex life, Brax promptly shuts down her request for more in the bedroom department and she resides herself to the fact that their Mexican vacation will be filled with sweet love-making and not the carnal passion she desires.

Soon, Tess’ desire to be tied up and spanked are answered, but not in the manner in which she dreamed. Beaten. Kidnapped. Sold. Life as Tess once knew it is over. The unknown is like the boogieman that lurks in the darkness waiting to break her, feeding off the terror that fills her soul. Tess is a pistol and cannot easily be broken. The question is will this help her or hinder her?
Don’t stop living while you endure. And don’t let the pain of your past stop you from being happy in this new life.
Realizing that escape from this life is unlikely, Tess finds a place in her mind that offers peace and happiness as she endures life as a slave to the Master she simply calls “Q”. Romanticizing her life is what gets her through the days, but shockingly, Q is determined to show her otherwise.
You are mine. I can do what I want with you. I can dress you. Fuck you. Send you away. Loan you to others. You belong to me. And you’ve finally realized it isn’t romantic, it isn’t sexy, or fun. It’s something no one should want or desire. You’re a captive.
TEARS OF TESS is dark and sexy, but keep in mind, there’s quite a range in the “dark reads” arena. It has received mixed reviews regarding the “dark” label among lovers of the truly dark and twisted reads that are available – I am a lover of those myself. The dark elements are romanticized to appeal to a broader range of readers (strictly my opinion), but I read everything from the really tame to the totally taboo and I still thought it was well done. This one earns a big thumbs up from me!

I can't wait to dive into the next book in the MONSTERS IN THE DARK series, due out in December, Quintessentially Q (Yes, the series name changed on 10/20/13 from TEARS OF TESS to MONSTERS IN THE DARK).
